Overcoming Natural Fears

Why does seeing a business advisor fill some people with dread? A number of unnerving questions come to mind as someone contemplates visiting a business advisor:

• How much will this cost?

• Will I have to relinquish control of my business?

• Will they tell me I’ve been a terrible business owner?

• What if I have skeletons — like things I've done wrong or missing documents?

• What if I’m not ready? I have fires to put out first!

• What if the ROI on this isn’t worthwhile?

• What kind of time will I have to invest? I’m busy as it is!

These what-ifs tend to evaporate after a few productive workshops with Eagle Corporate Advisors. First, for business owners reluctant to lift up that rock and see what’s underneath, we can assure you that we don’t expect everyone to be completely organized, efficient, and knowledgeable. Our aim is not to find fault but to gain a solid understanding so we can help.

If you’ve built a business and are running it, you already stand out as someone who has accomplished something most never even attempt. Remember there’s no need to “clean up before the maid comes,” as it’s our job to see the whole business, dirty dishes and all. We will assess where you are now, then build your confidence, prioritize your goals and help you reach them faster.

The fear of being overwhelmed with too many assignments or workshops with an advisor is also something we can dispel. Your free time will not go down the drain — on the contrary, our goal is to get you more free time.

For most clients, a two-hour workshop every two weeks is the optimal time investment. That’s not an upper limit, as we make ourselves available at any time, for any major decisions that arise. That’s our promise to you.

As for the fear of someone telling you what to do, that’s also not in our playbook. As a business owner, you retain control, and our workshops are about having conversations, not issuing orders. Business owners have enough people telling them what they should do next or should have done in the past. We’re here to actually help, not just be a Monday-morning quarterback.

It can be scary to think about leveling up, because it usually means shedding something that has been working — to some extent, at least. Your current procedures, team members, and mindset have gotten you this far. But your progress might look like a plateau, which means you are stuck.

Our free online Altitude Assessment can help you figure out where your business is right now — how high that plateau is — and it’s the first step in reaching higher. In 10 minutes, you’ll have feedback on your business’s performance in eight fundamental areas.

Overcoming fears is something we have all done, little by little, since we were kids. Running a business and making decisions about how that business should grow can be a stressful and uncertain undertaking. Not having all the answers makes even the best leaders develop a fear of change.

Using proven methodologies and systematic analyses of your individual business, we can help you navigate the unknown. Our mission is to help businesses owners reach their goals faster, while also putting to rest many of their worries and building their confidence. Together, we can go farther.
