In screening potential clients, one important characteristic that I require from owners is being humble and teachable. In order to improve and change for the better, all of us need to be interested in and open-minded about education and lifelong learning.

The 2019 Nevada Legislative session is in the books, leaving participants exhausted but hopefully with a feeling of accomplishment. As usual, many ideas and bills did not make it through the process. Yet, dozens of bills were approved and are waiting to be signed into law.

Although the 2019 Nevada Legislative Session only has 3 weeks remaining, it is far from winding down. In fact, this might be the most intense portion of the 120 day session. Due to the timing process, 285 bills died in committee and, as of this writing, 12 bills have been signed by the Governor.

Now that we are halfway through the Nevada legislative session, it’s safe to say there is an assortment of thoughtful proposals. Then there are several that leave you scratching your head and asking, “What are they thinking?” The one thing they have in common is the ability to impact your business in positive or negative ways.

The visit to Carson City was successful despite the ever-changing winds. A few from our delegation were not able to make it due to diverted flights. Along the highway from Reno to Carson City, a couple of tractor trailers were blown over. And many of the Republican legislators were trying to hold strong against the sheer force of Democratic pressure.

The 80th session of the Nevada Legislature, which meets every two years, began on February 4th and will be running for 120 consecutive days. The decisions made by our elected representatives have an immediate and powerful impact on our daily lives, especially for those of us who own and run businesses.
